What the calculator counts
- Depreciation
- The purchase price minus the car’s value at the end. The value falls by fuel type and make, based on real used-car prices, and depends on mileage.
- Financing
- With cash, the return the money would earn elsewhere; with a finance lease, interest with down payment and balloon; with an operating lease, the monthly fees.
- Energy
- Fuel or electricity by distance and consumption, with the winter extra, towing, where you charge and the losses, day and night tariffs and rising prices.
- Preheating
- Warming the cabin on cold days, and warming an electric car’s battery before it charges.
- Car tax
- The Estonian annual tax for each year of ownership and the registration fee, with the 2028 and 2031 increases.
- Insurance
- Compulsory motor insurance and Kasko, which gets cheaper as the car loses value; Kasko is mandatory with a lease.
- Servicing and repairs
- Scheduled services, wear, roadworthiness tests, and the chance of a bigger repair once the warranty ends.
- Tyres
- Wear of summer and winter tyres, two changeovers a year and tyre storage.
- Company cars
- VAT recovery and fringe benefit tax when a company owns the car.

Where does the data come from, and how current is it?
Prices and tax rules were checked in October 2026: car tax against the EMTA and Transport Administration calculators, electricity from Elering and Elektrilevi price lists, charging from the operators, fuel from fuelo.net and model prices from importers’ price lists. The result is an estimate, not a quote – check your own car’s details before deciding. All data sources →
Is the data I enter stored anywhere?
Only in your own browser, so it is there next time. The calculator does not send your numbers to a server; a share link carries the comparison inside the link itself, and that never reaches the server either.
